The influence of the Moon affects not only a person’s emotional state, but also the consequences that the events of the day may bring. Even sowing plants is subject to the influence of lunar phases, so garden or vegetable-garden care should be coordinated with the Lunar Sowing Calendar; otherwise, a good harvest may never come. There are four Moon phases: New Moon, Full Moon, waxing Moon, and waning Moon.

NEW MOON – Sowing and Plant Care

The New Moon itself, the day before it, and the day after it form a three-day Moon phase during which garden work should be carried out with great caution. During this period, it is not recommended to plant anything, sow seeds, graft, or hill plants, since none of these actions will bring the expected result. The first and last days of the phase are suitable only for removing weeds and fighting pests. Pruning trees and shrubs, as well as pinching vegetable crops, is also allowed. At the very peak of the New Moon, it is better not even to touch the plants, so as not to deprive them of vital energy, and to limit work to watering and surface loosening of the soil.

 WAXING MOON – Sowing and Plant Care

The waxing Moon phase begins immediately after the New Moon and is characterized by increased activity of all metabolic processes. For plants, this is a time of accelerated sap movement and intensive development of the aboveground part. This is a favorable time for sowing all types of crops. Sowing any plants during this period, as well as pruning, will lead to intensive growth and the appearance of a large amount of young growth. Naturally, any work should be guided by a sense of moderation, so as not to sow too densely and also to leave enough buds on the plant to ensure its normal viability.

The waxing Moon is an unfavorable period for budding. Special attention should be given to plants planted or transplanted during this lunar phase, since all the plant’s forces are directed toward the growth of new shoots, while the root system is weakened and has a low degree of survival. However, transplanting during the waxing Moon also has its advantages: the roots react very little to damage.

During the waxing Moon, it is better to sow, plant, and transplant leafy crops, melons and gourds, fruit and berry shrubs, garden trees, and strawberries. It is also good to make time for soil cultivation, watering, fertilizing, grafting, and trying to root cuttings. The waxing Moon causes such active life processes in plants that they require more abundant watering than usual.

 FULL MOON – Sowing and Plant Care

The Full Moon lasts only three days, so it is important to make an effort to complete all the most necessary tasks. This period is favorable for weeding, fighting various pests and weeds, hilling, and mulching. If the Moon is not in water zodiac signs, seeds may also be collected. These days are also well suited for preserving foods, such as making homemade wine, fermenting and salting vegetables and fruits, but only preparations that do not require heat treatment. Otherwise, all the sealed jars may burst. Pruning, grafting, and pinching should not be carried out during the Full Moon.

WANING MOON – Sowing and Plant Care

The Full Moon is followed by the waning Moon phase, which increases the activity of the underground part of plants. Since the roots are now undergoing significant changes, they become extremely sensitive to external irritants, so it is better not to try to transplant plants. During this period, the growth of the green part slows down.
Therefore, pruning or pinching will slow the growth of shoots. If planting is done at this time, only plants whose most valuable part is the tuber or underground part should be planted, such as potatoes, bulbous plants,  legumes, and root crops. This period is favorable for digging up flower bulbs for winter storage, all kinds of canning, weeding, and cutting flowers. Watering should be limited; root fertilizing is preferable.

SOWING AND PLANT CARE BY ZODIAC SIGN

The Moon’s position in one zodiac sign or another affects the development of plants planted at that moment in different ways. There are combinations of lunar phase and zodiac signs that increase fertility, and there are also those that do the opposite. It is best when planting and caring for plants are done with the maximum number of factors taken into account. Such criteria include weather conditions, the season, the survival characteristics of each variety, the Moon phase in the zodiac sign, and soil characteristics.

Moon in Aries

Aries. During this Moon phase, it is better to refrain from planting and focus on weeding, spraying, and pest control. This sign is not very good for sowing; the harvest from seeds sown with the Moon in Aries does not promise to be abundant and is not suitable for storage. It gives the plant rapid growth.

Moon in Taurus

Taurus is the most fertile sign. During the waxing Moon phase, legumes, cabbage, greens, and asparagus may be sown.  During the waning Moon phase, it is good to plant root crops such as carrots, potatoes, and beets. Throughout the entire period of this sign’s influence, it is recommended to prick out seedlings and carry out formative pruning of shrubs and trees. Everything planted in Taurus will produce a large harvest that can be stored for a long time, but the resulting fruits should not be used for seed.

Moon in Gemini

Gemini is similar in its characteristics to Aries. During this period, it is best to limit work to weeding and pest-control measures. However, Gemini is not so bad for all plants. Under its influence, it is good to plant and transplant tall, climbing, ornamental plants and shrubs: roses, clematis, chrysanthemums, bindweed, hops, Virginia creeper, and others, as well as plants that reproduce by runners, such as strawberries and wild strawberries. It is good to care for the lawn, mow grass, and collect medicinal herbs, especially their aboveground parts.

Moon in Cancer

Cancer helps produce a large harvest, although it will not be stored for long. In addition, obtaining seed specimens is not recommended. On these days, seedlings may be pricked out and trees may be pruned and grafted. It is better to plant plants that require abundant and constant watering. During the waxing Moon, it is good to sow and plant pumpkin, bell pepper, different varieties of cabbage, zucchini, tomatoes with cucumbers, asparagus, currants, gooseberries, and raspberries. The waning Moon in Taurus is suitable for planting root crops, such as potatoes, carrots, or beets.

Moon in Leo

Leo is an infertile sign, so only routine work to keep the vegetable garden and garden in good condition should be done, such as weeding and spraying. It is undesirable to sow or plant vegetables, shrubs, and fruit trees,  except for drought-resistant ones.

Moon in Virgo

Virgo is a favorable sign for planting berry bushes, strawberries, wild strawberries, and various medicinal plants. Surprisingly, everything planted during this period is resistant to various diseases. As for vegetable crops, it is better to wait. This time is ideal for garden and vegetable-garden care: watering, weeding, hilling, loosening the soil, pest control, pruning, and digging over the plot.

Moon in Libra

Libra during the waning Moon phase favors planting root crops. During the waxing Moon phase, it favors planting peas, lentils, beans, soybeans, cucumbers, pumpkin, zucchini, and cabbage. This zodiac sign is also well suited for sowing flowers, dividing berry bushes, planting strawberries, and planting plum, cherry, cherry plum, pear, and apricot trees. Aquarius is not a time to plant anything; it is better to focus on routine work. This sign is considered dry and barren; vegetables, shrubs, and trees planted during it will be low-yielding, unattractive, and unhealthy-looking.

Moon in Pisces

Pisces. Trees should not be touched during this period. During the waxing Moon, it is possible to plant moisture-loving vegetables, horseradish, greens, and raspberries; during the waning Moon, root crops and bulbous flowers may be planted.
