Marcia Gay Harden

Marcia Gay Harden is an American actress known for her varied roles in film, television and theatre.
Harden began her career in the 1980s, playing small roles in film and television. The first recognition came after the film “Millers’ Procession” (1990), filmed by the Coen brothers. However, she received real fame and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Lee Krasner in the film “Pollock” (2000), which tells about the life of artist Jackson Pollock.
In addition to Pollock, Marcia Gay Harden is known for her roles in films such as “Mystic River” (2003), for which she received a second Oscar nomination, “The Mist”(2007) and “Madam Secretary”  (2014–2019), where she played one of the main roles.
On television, Harden has also achieved success, starring in such popular series as “The Good Wife”, “News”, and “Code Black”. In addition to cinema, she actively participates in theatrical productions, for which she was nominated for a “Tony” award.

KARMIC INDICATORS

Karmic indicators help a person become aware of deep-rooted problems that go back to past lives, and begin working on themselves in order to overcome them and improve both this life and, potentially, the next one. Karmic problems should not be understood as punishment for misdeeds and sins, as karma is usually interpreted in the everyday sense. Karma is not retribution, but rather inertia, when a person attracts similar situations from one life to another. From a karmic point of view, every element of the natal chart can be interpreted without exception. However, the most important indicators of karma in the horoscope are retrograde planets, if any, and the Lunar Nodes.

Retrograde Planets

Retrograde planets are always connected with turning back to the past. The more retrograde planets a person has in the horoscope, the stronger their connection with the past. A retrograde planet also points to an unresolved task from a past life, unfinished business, or unrealized abilities. It forces the person to take up again what could not be completed in the past. The symbol used in the table is R.

Retrograde Mercury — Individuality

When Mercury is retrograde in the horoscope, the individual’s conscious mind is able to intercept ideas from the universal consciousness of earlier times. Usually, they are not aware of this, but they are aware that they cannot easily make others understand everything they know. This is partly connected with the inversion of the Mercury symbol, in which the significance of Matter exceeds the significance of Spirit and Soul. This makes the individual concerned with the form of their ideas. And this acts as a barrier to the essence of their knowledge.

In addition, the wavelength of their mind differs slightly from what is accepted in society. Thought processes tend to repeat themselves like an endless recording, and as a result, most of the things they create are, in one form or another, copies of what they have already done. When they speak, it is difficult for them to project the exact telepathic pictures that convey the meanings of their thoughts. Thus, they often feel misunderstood and wonder why others do not always see things the same way they do.

They see themselves as more separate from society than a person with Mercury in direct motion may be. As a result, they desperately try to develop contacts with other people, overemphasizing their ideas until they begin to irritate those around them. Feeling constrained in company, they make great efforts to win the favor of others. Nevertheless, at the slightest hint of rejection, they may give up too easily. Ultimately, they learn that in order to have self-confidence, they must become more detached and impartial than people with Mercury in direct motion. This is often interpreted by others as “coldness,” but it is simply the vibration of retrograde Mercury, which is so obviously disharmonious with the vibrations of direct motion. Behind the apparent wall, this individual is far more sensitive than most people can imagine.

Once the communication barrier has been crossed, tremendous understanding and intuition emanate from retrograde Mercury. The retrograde individual does not fit into the ideas and opinions of the people around them. Instead, they can find peace in gratitude for their unique way of seeing things.

It is interesting to note that many people with musical talent have retrograde Mercury. Perhaps awareness of difficulties with spoken language led them to another form of communication, one that has much greater freedom and many levels of subtle mental and emotional expression.

Retrograde Mercury — Karma

A person with retrograde Mercury must experience unresolved relationship karma. They react to others as if those people symbolize figures from their past. Thus, it is difficult for them to keep the focus of their consciousness on the “here and now.” Usually, this manifests as difficulties with family and relatives. But the issue of relationships extends beyond communication with other people and includes the perception of the universe as a whole. There is often a problem characteristic of retrograde Mercury in terms of seeing what may be called an inverted reality. The individual has difficulty understanding the basic relationship between cause and effect. They explore the essence of life itself, yet often cannot see the simple connections between things, circumstances, and people. Lost in thoughts that lie beyond their understanding, they must learn to be content with the simple things on which life is based. They are so absorbed in uncovering what is beyond their understanding that they almost always miss the obvious.

From a karmic point of view, this individual must learn to focus attention on the reality of the present rather than lose themselves in all the apparent layers they perceive. When they are able to do this, they will be able to establish a solid point of reference in the “here and now,” through which all the discoveries they make can be expressed to the outer world.

Retrograde Mercury in Leo

The greatest harmony between the planet and the sign in this position is found in Phase I of the retrograde process. Here, the individual strives to radiate their authoritative knowledge to others in an attempt to master the future now. They continue thinking about how they can overcome tomorrow’s obstacles. In their enthusiasm, they may have a strong tendency toward exaggeration. Possessing tremendous pride, they silently feel jealous of all major achievements in which they did not personally participate.

They feel least comfortable during Phase III, when they do not feel involved in everything happening around them.

Past-life thoughts about strength and power continue to seep into the conscious mind, making the person hungry for achievement. In fact, at times they think they are being pressured. This may have been true in one of their past incarnations. Mistaking the past for the present, they try to apply pressure to their conscious thinking in this life as well. They love the attention they receive from others during Phase I and miss it greatly during Phase III, when their inner pride prevents them from wanting to see their own needs. In truth, they do not feel completely comfortable even during Phase I, because Leo’s honesty prevents them from blowing their own horn prematurely. Thus, whatever phase they are experiencing, they tend to keep much inside. Although past incarnations have taught them to think broadly enough to step beyond narrow structures or small ideas, the frustration of the retrograde process makes it difficult for them always to be able to express what they know. Their most significant quality is the ability to evaluate the whole situation when others see only separate fragments.

Retrograde Mercury in the Second House

Here, the individual feels most comfortable during Phase III of the retrograde process, where many of their thoughts are based on what they have already seen in the past. They may take a defensive position regarding the value systems they have worked so hard to crystallize. Easily becoming possessive of their past thoughts, they may fixate on one obsessive idea after another.

Much attention is focused on money; however, they may be frugal in small matters and wasteful in large ones, — depending on the phase they are in at the given moment. The difficulty of this position is that the thinking processes may become so deeply rooted in the material that it will not be easy for the individual to see the relative significance of other levels of life.

They tend to repeat themselves in many ways, eventually boring those around them. This is a very difficult position for Mercury — to be free enough to allow the individual to experience the full range of conscious reaction mechanisms. In almost everything they do, this individual is a creature of habit, and they often have difficulty breaking past patterns of behavior connected with excessive indulgence of their desires. Sometimes this position can lead to excess weight, since retrograde Mercury’s need for verbal expression, combined with the possessive qualities of the Second House and Taurus’s great love of food, creates a desire to overeat. In other cases, the retaining qualities of the Second House combine with the inward direction of retrograde Mercury to create an ulcer-prone individual who, instead of expressing all their values, becomes irritated and torments themselves with the question of why the world does not accept them. This individual brings into this life the karma of crystallized thinking within their value system, to which they stubbornly cling even after it has ceased to be relevant. They may become the happiest of people if they step beyond the limits of old habits that constantly pull them back.

Retrograde Venus — Individuality

A person with retrograde Venus differs noticeably from a person with Venus in direct motion. Here, there is a tendency to create grievances and wounds within and work through them internally, whereas Venus in direct motion would try to work them through outwardly. Often, retrograde Venus not only creates these grievances and wounds, but also tends to exaggerate their effect. Excessive emphasis is placed on the lack of love in the individual’s life. For such a person, the path of love does not flow smoothly.

Excessively shy, they usually doubt whether people pay attention to them. Not always certain of their likes and dislikes, they experience a discrepancy between their life and their awareness of it. They may be deeply in love and not realize it until years after the relationship has ended. They experience many similar behavior patterns designed to keep them from entering the reality of what they think they truly need.

There is always difficulty with the opposite sex, since the individual tends to subconsciously preprogram their future relationships so that they fit the patterns of their past.

Great insecurity corresponds to this position, since the individual constantly tries to measure up to the people whose paths cross theirs. But in doing so, they semi-consciously continue pushing others away so that no one truly comes to know them deeply enough to threaten the small degree of confidence and security on which they have based their identity. In this position, the individual blocks themselves from happiness by trying too hard to achieve it.

Retrograde Venus — Karma

When Venus is retrograde, the individual carries with them a misunderstanding of love from a past life. The emotional pain was so strong that they now cut themselves off from fully experiencing the richness of love because they are afraid of being wounded again. Whether male or female, there is great difficulty in relationships with the opposite sex in the current life.

Trying to live in the present, they endlessly recreate the past memory of love from a previous incarnation, which continues to elude them. They react to the present as if they are actually living in their past. In this sense, they are fixed at some point in time, and no matter what they do, there will hardly be the forward movement they say they want.

In men’s charts, this sometimes indicates karma connected with homosexuality. But even homosexuality has its levels, ranging from an openly homosexual man who tries to politically promote homosexuality to the world, to a man who will not tolerate even the word in his presence, who is married but looks for every opportunity to avoid women while proving his masculinity. In the life of the latter type of man, everything revolves around male friends. Under the pretext of attending clubs, associations, and so on, he avoids the company of women. He may function respectably in society, but he is still a latent homosexual. Less often, similar reactions are found in women with retrograde Venus.

The most noticeable karmic pattern is that the individual, whether male or female, has a strong tendency to distrust most offers of love, feeling that those who make these offers usually have hidden motives.

Retrograde Venus in Virgo

This is one of the most difficult positions for retrograde Venus, since the individual brings with them into this life a very high ideal of love. As a result, they never fully experience this feeling with the people with whom they are connected, because none of them lives up to their expectations. They subconsciously evaluate the flaws they feel and see in others. Because of this, they are not only reluctant to experience love, but when they do manage to feel love, they continue taking it apart piece by piece until the feelings become merely a collection of analytical theories.

They remain longest in Phase III of the retrograde process. Here, they manifest as an introvert out of fear that others will hurt them. In fact, this individual is experiencing karma. They are forced to understand human weakness, since the perfection of love, although it is an ideal toward which we all strive, should not be expected as a reality under human conditions. It is in this third phase that the individual asks why none of their past relationships satisfied their needs. And it is precisely this thought structure — “making love work” — that keeps the individual from discovering what the real experience of love actually is. Because of the retrograde action of the planet, the individual has to evaluate the flaws of others, and since they direct the energy inward, they tend to transfer this karma onto themselves. They must learn to see themselves clearly and love themselves not from the standpoint of all the ideals that have crystallized in their mind, but from the proper perspective of the reality of the world in which they live.

Retrograde Venus in the Third House

This is a very difficult position for Venus, since the unpredictability of Gemini constantly throws the individual from one retrograde phase to another. The person seems to be out of sync in most of their relationships. Their love is either too great or too small compared with what is received from the other individual. Their love may run counter to the dimension of time: they may feel great love for an individual when they are only preparing to be with them, yet experience a rather low vibration during actual personal contact. They reach the highest degree of love when they are already parting from this person — looking back and restoring them in memory.

Thus, in their love life and in relationships with other people, the individual experiences major problems when trying to live in the “here and now.” Forces outside them constantly act upon this retrograde Venus, creating conditions for which they are not yet ready or which they feel have already passed.
