Amelia Earhart

An outstanding American aviator, one of the first women in aviation, known for her numerous records and her mysterious disappearance during a flight around the world.
As a child, Earhart was an adventurer and was interested in a variety of activities that were considered inappropriate for girls at the time, including tree climbing and hunting.
In 1920, Earhart took to the air for the first time in an airplane piloted by the famous aviator Frank Hawks. This experience inspired her to study aviation.
In 1921, she began taking flying lessons and soon purchased her first airplane, which she named “The Canary.” In 1928, Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger on Friendship. She instantly gained international fame.
In 1932, she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, flying from Newfoundland, Canada, to Northern Ireland. In 1935, she made her first solo flight from Hawaii to California, becoming the first pilot to fly this route.
In 1937, Earhart attempted to fly around the world with navigator Fred Noonan. The route was supposed to go along the equator.
July 2, 1937, on the stage from Lae (Papua New Guinea) to Howland Island (Pacific Ocean), Earhart and Noonan’s plane disappeared. Despite extensive search operations, neither the plane nor their remains were ever found. On January 5, 1939 she was declared dead.
Amelia Earhart remains a symbol of courage, innovation and achievement.
