Émilie Dequenne

Émilie Dequenne was born on August 29, 1981, in the Belgian town of Beloe, in the province of Hainaut. From a young age, she was passionate about art, studying music and theater, which eventually led her to a career in acting. Her debut proved truly fateful: in 1999, the Dardenne brothers invited Émilie to play the lead role in the film “Rosetta.” This work brought her international fame—the young actress won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film itself was awarded the Palme d’Or.
Following this success, she continued to act in both independent and mainstream films. Among her notable films are “Brotherhood of the Wolf” (2001), “The Girl on the Train” (2009), “Our Children” (2012), and “Love Stories” (2020). Her performances were always marked by depth and sincerity, and each character was distinguished by its vividness and emotional power.
In her personal life, the actress had a daughter, Milla, born in 2002. Emilie later married director and producer Michel Ferracci, with whom she lived for the rest of her life.
In the fall of 2023, the actress revealed she had been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive adrenal cancer. Despite treatment, the disease progressed. On March 16, 2025, Emilie Decken passed away at the age of 43 at the Gustave-Roussy Hospital in Paris.
