The American actress and producer, one of Hollywood\’s brightest stars of the 1980s and 1990s, is a three-time Oscar nominee. She was born on April 29, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, to Richard Pfeiffer, an air conditioning salesman, and Donna, a homemaker. At school, Michelle was withdrawn but persistent, enjoying surfing and even skipping classes to pursue it. After high school, she enrolled at Golden West College, where she studied law, but soon dropped out, working as a supermarket cashier. In 1978, winning the Miss Orange beauty pageant and competing in the Miss California pageant spurred her on to an acting career. Pfeiffer made her film debut in the 1980 comedy Hollywood Knights, and her real breakthrough came with her role as Elvira Hancock, the wife of gangster Tony Montana, in the cult film Scarface (1983) with Al Pacino.
In the 1980s and 1990s, she became one of Hollywood’s leading actresses, starring in such iconic films as The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, The Famous Baker Boys (1989), for which she received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award, Batman Returns (1992), where her performance as Catwoman is considered one of the most influential comic book adaptations, and Love Field (1992), for which she received a third Oscar nomination and a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Her first husband was actor Peter Horton (1981–1988), and in 1993 she married screenwriter and producer David E. Kelley, to whom she remains married. Karmic problems should not be understood as punishment for misdeeds and sins, as karma is usually interpreted in the everyday sense. Karma is not retribution, but rather inertia, when a person attracts similar situations from one life to another. From a karmic point of view, every element of the natal chart can be interpreted without exception. However, the most important indicators of karma in the horoscope are retrograde planets, if any, and the Lunar Nodes.
Retrograde Planets
Retrograde planets are always connected with turning back to the past. The more retrograde planets a person has in the horoscope, the stronger their connection with the past. A retrograde planet also points to an unresolved task from a past life, unfinished business, or unrealized abilities. It forces the person to take up again what could not be completed in the past. Retrograde Mercury — Individuality
When Mercury is retrograde in the horoscope, the individual’s conscious mind is able to intercept ideas from the universal consciousness of earlier times. Usually, they are not aware of this, but they are aware that they cannot easily make others understand everything they know. Once the communication barrier has been crossed, tremendous understanding and intuition emanate from retrograde Mercury. The retrograde individual does not fit into the ideas and opinions of the people around them. Instead, they can find peace in gratitude for their unique way of seeing things.
It is interesting to note that many people with musical talent have retrograde Mercury. Perhaps awareness of difficulties with spoken language led them to another form of communication, one that has much greater freedom and many levels of subtle mental and emotional expression.
Retrograde Mercury — Karma
A person with retrograde Mercury must experience unresolved relationship karma. They react to others as if those people symbolize figures from their past. Thus, it is difficult for them to keep the focus of their consciousness on the “here and now.” Usually, this manifests as difficulties with family and relatives. But the issue of relationships extends beyond communication with other people and includes the perception of the universe as a whole. There is often a problem characteristic of retrograde Mercury in terms of seeing what may be called an inverted reality. The individual has difficulty understanding the basic relationship between cause and effect. They explore the essence of life itself, yet often cannot see the simple connections between things, circumstances, and people. Lost in thoughts that lie beyond their understanding, they must learn to be content with the simple things on which life is based. They are so absorbed in uncovering what is beyond their understanding that they almost always miss the obvious.
From a karmic point of view, this individual must learn to focus attention on the reality of the present rather than lose themselves in all the apparent layers they perceive. Retrograde Mercury in Aries
Here, the individual feels most comfortable during Phase I of the retrograde process, when their thirst for understanding carries them forward through the cardinal, Martian qualities of Aries, so that they once again experience the primitive part of their mental development from previous incarnations. All thought and sensory patterns reflect their almost childlike desire to prove their mental competence.
Lacking patience, they often suffer from shortsightedness because of impulsive thinking. This throws them out of temporal alignment with most of the people they speak with. Nevertheless, this individual is a strong debater and enjoys the challenge of mental stimulation. This allows them to prove that they are worthy, even if the reasons they consider themselves inadequate do not come from this life. Constantly wanting to know whether they are good enough in the eyes of others, they rush forward to prove that they can meet the challenges of their past. In doing so, the people whose understanding they originally desired are already out of the frame.
Retrograde Mercury is least harmonious with the sign of Aries during Phase III, when the individual goes back in their consciousness in order to reexperience what has already been lived through. For this reason, the individual hates repeating themselves and actively complains about the need to live in a world that loses intellectual stimulation by constantly reviewing what has already been completed.
Retrograde Mercury in the Eleventh House
Here, the individual experiences more mental freedom than practical application of their thoughts. As they pass through the retrograde phases, they may be an inspirer of ideas for others during Phase I, or, at the other extreme, a dreamer during Phase III, reflecting on what they could have done but did not do. The Uranian need for excitement and the mental need for stimulation make Phase II the most uncomfortable one for the individual. As a result, the combination of Phases I and III causes the individual to experience great impracticality in their thinking. They find it difficult to establish meaning and significance.
