Fred Astaire (real name Frederick Austerlitz) is a famous American dancer, actor, singer and choreographer. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Austrian immigrants. His career began as a child, when he performed in a duet with his sister Adele. After she retired from the stage in 1932, Fred continued his solo career, debuting in Hollywood.
Astaire is known for his unique dance style, combining jazz, tap and ballroom dancing, as well as his bright sense of rhythm and ease of movement. His talent was fully demonstrated in classic musical films, where he often danced with Ginger Rogers, for example, in The Merry Divorce (1934) and Top Hat (1935). These films made them a legendary couple, a symbol of the “golden age” of Hollywood.
