An American inventor and businessman who patented over a thousand inventions, including the dictaphone in 1868, the phonograph in 1877, the incandescent light bulb in 1879, the motion picture projector in 1891, and the talking movie in 1913, an incredible creative genius.
He was a sickly child and, after an attack of scarlet fever, began to lose his hearing. By the age of 12, he had completely lost hearing in one ear and gradually lost hearing in the other in the last years of his life. His education was limited to three months of primary school, which he left after hearing a teacher call him “lost.” To quench his thirst for learning, he was an avid reader throughout his life.
Edison died of uremic poisoning on 10/18/1931 in West Orange, New Jersey. His last words are reported to have been: “It’s very beautiful there.” Link to biography.
