Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr (real name Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) was an Austrian-American actress and inventor. She was born on November 9, 1914 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary and died on January 19, 2000 in Casselberry, Florida, USA.
Lamarr is known as one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age. She starred in films such as Algiers (1938), Lady Without a Passport (1950) and Samson and Delilah (1949).
However, Hedy Lamarr became famous not only for her acting achievements. She was also an inventor and developed frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology. This technology was used to control torpedoes during World War II and later became the basis for modern wireless communications such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In 1942, Lamarr and her co-author George Antheil received a patent for their invention.
