Peter Sellers was born in 1925 in England to a family of music hall performers, so the stage was his home from childhood. He began his career on radio, appearing on the cult comedy program The Goon Show, where he honed the talent for impersonation and voice acting that would later bring him worldwide fame. His real success came in the 1960s with his role as the hapless Inspector Jacques Clouseau in the Pink Panther film series, and the pinnacle of his acting genius is considered to be his work with Stanley Kubrick in Dr. Strangelove, where he played three different characters.
Yet, behind his comic talent, Sellers concealed a complex and contradictory personality: he suffered from depression, was demanding to the point of confrontation, and often lost his sense of self outside of his roles. He died in 1980 at the age of 54 from a heart attack, but will forever remain in history as a genius of transformation and one of the greatest comedians of the 20th century. Link to biography.
