Mae West

Mae West is an American actress, screenwriter, playwright and sex symbol, known for her witty, provocative statements and roles in film and theater.
Mary Jane “Mae” West was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother was a model and actress, and her father was a boxer and private detective. Already at an early age, May showed an interest in the stage, beginning to perform in vaudeville at the age of seven.
Mae West gradually gained popularity in the theater thanks to her unique style of playing daring and sexually uninhibited women. In 1926, she wrote and starred in the play Sex, which caused great public outcry and even led to the actress’s arrest for “violating public morals.” However, this incident only contributed to her fame.
In 1932, West made her Hollywood debut with the film Night After Night and quickly became one of the highest paid actresses. Her role in the film “She Treated Him Unfairly” (1933) cemented her status as a sex symbol and screen star. Phrases from her films, such as “When I’m good, I’m very good, but when I’m bad, I’m even better” became catchphrases.
In the 1940s, West’s popularity began to decline and she became increasingly involved in stage and radio appearances. She returned to the big screen in the 1970s, starring in My Little Chick (1970) and Sextet (1978).
West was known for her independent spirit and was modest about sharing details of her personal life. She was married twice, but remained single most of her life.

KARMIC INDICATORS

Karmic indicators help a person become aware of deep-rooted problems that go back to past lives, and begin working on themselves in order to overcome them and improve both this life and, potentially, the next one. Karmic problems should not be understood as punishment for misdeeds and sins, as karma is usually interpreted in the everyday sense. Karma is not retribution, but rather inertia, when a person attracts similar situations from one life to another. From a karmic point of view, every element of the natal chart can be interpreted without exception. However, the most important indicators of karma in the horoscope are retrograde planets, if any, and the Lunar Nodes.

Retrograde Planets

Retrograde planets are always connected with turning back to the past. The more retrograde planets a person has in the horoscope, the stronger their connection with the past. A retrograde planet also points to an unresolved task from a past life, unfinished business, or unrealized abilities. It forces the person to take up again what could not be completed in the past. The symbol used in the table is R.

Retrograde Mercury — Individuality

When Mercury is retrograde in the horoscope, the individual’s conscious mind is able to intercept ideas from the universal consciousness of earlier times. Usually, they are not aware of this, but they are aware that they cannot easily make others understand everything they know. This is partly connected with the inversion of the Mercury symbol, in which the significance of Matter exceeds the significance of Spirit and Soul. This makes the individual concerned with the form of their ideas. And this acts as a barrier to the essence of their knowledge.

In addition, the wavelength of their mind differs slightly from what is accepted in society. Thought processes tend to repeat themselves like an endless recording, and as a result, most of the things they create are, in one form or another, copies of what they have already done. When they speak, it is difficult for them to project the exact telepathic pictures that convey the meanings of their thoughts. Thus, they often feel misunderstood and wonder why others do not always see things the same way they do.

They see themselves as more separate from society than a person with Mercury in direct motion may be. As a result, they desperately try to develop contacts with other people, overemphasizing their ideas until they begin to irritate those around them. Feeling constrained in company, they make great efforts to win the favor of others. Nevertheless, at the slightest hint of rejection, they may give up too easily. Ultimately, they learn that in order to have self-confidence, they must become more detached and impartial than people with Mercury in direct motion. This is often interpreted by others as “coldness,” but it is simply the vibration of retrograde Mercury, which is so obviously disharmonious with the vibrations of direct motion. Behind the apparent wall, this individual is far more sensitive than most people can imagine.

Once the communication barrier has been crossed, tremendous understanding and intuition emanate from retrograde Mercury. The retrograde individual does not fit into the ideas and opinions of the people around them. Instead, they can find peace in gratitude for their unique way of seeing things.

It is interesting to note that many people with musical talent have retrograde Mercury. Perhaps awareness of difficulties with spoken language led them to another form of communication, one that has much greater freedom and many levels of subtle mental and emotional expression.

Retrograde Mercury — Karma

A person with retrograde Mercury must experience unresolved relationship karma. They react to others as if those people symbolize figures from their past. Thus, it is difficult for them to keep the focus of their consciousness on the “here and now.” Usually, this manifests as difficulties with family and relatives. But the issue of relationships extends beyond communication with other people and includes the perception of the universe as a whole. There is often a problem characteristic of retrograde Mercury in terms of seeing what may be called an inverted reality. The individual has difficulty understanding the basic relationship between cause and effect. They explore the essence of life itself, yet often cannot see the simple connections between things, circumstances, and people. Lost in thoughts that lie beyond their understanding, they must learn to be content with the simple things on which life is based. They are so absorbed in uncovering what is beyond their understanding that they almost always miss the obvious.

From a karmic point of view, this individual must learn to focus attention on the reality of the present rather than lose themselves in all the apparent layers they perceive. When they are able to do this, they will be able to establish a solid point of reference in the “here and now,” through which all the discoveries they make can be expressed to the outer world.

Retrograde Mercury in Virgo

Here, the individual experiences the benefits of planetary rulership, through which the mutable qualities of Virgo blend with Mercury’s boundless curiosity, allowing a certain degree of comfort in all three retrograde phases. The least harmony with the sign is observed during Phase I, when the individual tries to get ahead of themselves but cannot make everything they want into reality. This explains the extreme nervousness found during the first phase. As a result, there is a tendency to remain a little longer in Phase II, when the individual can manifest what is familiar to them. Then, in the final phase, they show excessive criticism, looking back at everything they have completed, studying the flaws and comparing them with the ideal in their mind.

They may apparently maintain a strict, cold position, showing intolerance toward disorder. They also know what is right and wrong and how others should live their lives. In past incarnations, they experienced lessons that taught them a careful method of thinking — how to comprehend all the complexities within themselves and in the universe. They learned to see the important difference between how the world actually works and how it can work in their ideas. They discovered that mechanisms of all kinds may be closer to the ideals they see than the mechanism of human relationships. Thus, in relationships with people, they try to make everything fit into these computer-like ideals established in the past. Their joy comes from confidence in solving problems involving details that others are unable to handle. They may not have many friends, but those close to them will be carefully chosen.

Retrograde Mercury in the Fifth House

Here, the individual feels most comfortable during Phase I, although all three phases bring frustration into their lifestyle. Having difficulty focusing their mental energy, they continue working through karma by learning how to make their mental plane productively creative. Curiosity makes them leap forward into the sphere of many ideas about what they would like to create. However, it is much easier for them to think about creating something, or to tell others what they would like to create, than to actually bring their projects fully into reality.

They experience great sexual tensions, and these energies constantly spill over into their mental centers. Drawn to young people, they find it easier to express the radiating qualities of the first phase than the natural introverted tendency of retrograde motion.

In the company of people their own age or older, they become more reserved and inhibited. This quality is more exaggerated here than in all the other Houses of the horoscope, since the individual is faced with a conflict: whether to be the actor at the center of their life or to be the spectator, watching the actions of others.

They are drawn to reading romantic stories, as well as stories about how people achieved greatness, but they find it difficult to apply their knowledge in practice. They often think they will do more, and this causes their mind to rush farther and farther into the future. Looking back, which is a property of retrograde motion, the person receives rapidly flashing illustrations of how little they have accomplished in the past. They must learn to overcome the effect of these disappointing mental pictures, which continue to hinder them in everything they believe they could become.

Some people with this position of retrograde Mercury avoid the opposite sex, because childhood problems are projected once again onto individuals of the opposite sex in the present and future. Retrograde Mars — Individuality

It is not easy for this individual to coordinate their needs. They have difficulty coordinating thought and action. The past, everything they have truly experienced, remains on the periphery of their consciousness. They also experience sexual difficulties because of the reverse magnetism of the retrograde planet. This is mainly due to their inability to regulate the flow of energy that this planetary position causes them to experience.

Much of what they will experience depends less on thoughts or emotions and more on the ability to manage their energy levels in coordination with the energies they receive from other people. They may react very strongly to a person. Their powerful attachments or dislikes may be based entirely on energies rather than on human sympathies.

Because of this, the individual’s relationships are almost always somewhat distorted. On the sexual level, they apparently symbolize more of a struggle for survival than an actual union with another person. They may jump to conclusions while at the same time delaying the necessary actions that would correct whatever is troubling them. Retrograde Mars — Karma

When Mars is retrograde in the horoscope, all the individual’s actions in the current life are a restoration of the past. In this life, the individual tries to find people who symbolize those who satisfied them in past incarnations. In their mind, they assign roles to these figures who no longer exist and try, with them, to act out everything they could not previously express. They exert too much influence on people in an attempt to “fit” them into the imaginary roles they have devised for them. They tend to focus on those times in the past when they dealt with force. Here, the individual feels most comfortable in Phase I, when they wish to wander where no one’s footprints lie ahead of them. They place no limits on the freedom they want to experience, and in this incarnation they carry within themselves the continuation of a free instinct developed in previous lives. When they are constrained by the boundaries of society, they rebel against existing life norms and will seek new rules that expand the limits of what already exists.
