Miles Davis

Miles Davis is a legendary American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader who played a key role in the development of jazz over five decades. Born May 26, 1926, in Alton, Illinois, USA, and raised in St. Louis, Davis began playing trumpet at an early age and moved to New York City in 1944 to study at the Juilliard School, but soon became immersed in the city’s jazz scene.
Collaborating with Charlie Parker, Davis became an important figure in the development of bebop and later pioneered such styles as cool jazz, modal jazz, and fusion. His first breakthrough came in the late 1940s with his participation in the album Birth of the Cool (1957), which laid the foundations for cool jazz.
One of Davis’s most significant albums, Kind of Blue (1959), is considered a masterpiece of modal jazz and one of the most influential jazz albums of all time. In the 1970s, he experimented with electronics and rock, creating groundbreaking records such as Bitches Brew (1970), which became the starting point for jazz fusion.
During his long career, Miles Davis repeatedly changed directions and styles, constantly finding new forms of expression. His influence went far beyond jazz, embracing rock, hip-hop, and pop culture.
Miles Davis died on September 28, 1991, at the age of 65, leaving behind an enormous legacy of inspiration for musicians around the world. Link to biography.
