Nikola Tesla is an outstanding inventor, engineer and physicist of Serbian origin, who made a huge contribution to the development of electrical and radio engineering.
Born in Austria-Hungary (now the territory of Croatia) in the family of a priest. Since childhood, he showed interest in science and technology. He received his education at the Graz Technical University and the University of Prague.
In 1884, Tesla moved to the United States, where he worked for some time for Thomas Edison, but they soon separated due to disagreements over working methods and views on the use of electricity. Tesla began working on his own projects, creating many inventions, most notably his contributions to the development of the alternating current (AC) system, which proved to be more efficient and safer than the direct current (DC) system promoted by Edison.
One of Tesla’s main achievements was the development of a transformer and an induction motor running on alternating current, which made possible the large-scale use of electricity in industry and everyday life. Tesla also conducted important research in the fields of wireless power transmission, high-frequency currents, radio engineering, and even the possibility of transmitting thoughts.
Despite his achievements, Tesla died in poverty in New York in 1943. His scientific works and ideas continue to inspire scientists and engineers around the world. Link to biography.
