John Heard is an American actor known for his roles in film and television. He was born on March 7, 1946 in Washington, D.C. and died on July 21, 2017 in Palo Alto, California.
John Heard began his acting career in the theater before moving to film and television. His breakthrough role was in the film Punishment (1981).
He is best known for his role as Peter McCallister, the father of the title character, in the popular films Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). His other notable works include the films Big (1988), After Hours (1985), and The Purge (1996).
On television, he played roles in a number of series, including The Sopranos, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor.
Heard was married three times and had three children. He led a relatively low-profile life, focusing on his work and family.
