Roman Polanski

Roman Polanski is a Polish-French director, screenwriter, producer and actor, recognized as one of the most influential directors in the history of cinema.
Polanski was born in Paris into a Jewish family. In 1937, his family returned to Poland, where Polanski survived the occupation and the Holocaust during World War II, which greatly influenced his subsequent work.
After the war, Polanski studied at the Lodz Film School in Poland, where he made his first short films. His first feature film, Knife in the Water (1962), attracted international critical attention and was nominated for an Oscar.
Polanski moved to the UK and then to the US, where he made several landmark films, including Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974), and Tess (1979).
In 1969, Polanski’s wife, actress Sharon Tate, was murdered by followers of Charles Manson. In 1977, Polanski was accused of having sex with an underage girl and fled the United States for France to avoid punishment. This scandal continues to affect his career and reputation.
Despite the scandals, Polanski continued to work and received many awards for his films. His more recent works include The Pianist (2002), for which he won an Oscar for Best Director, Phantom (2010) and An Officer and a Spy (2019).
Polanski has received many prestigious awards, including the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and several Cesar Awards. However, his career remains controversial due to his past offenses and ongoing legal problems.
