Louis Armstrong is an outstanding American jazz musician, trumpeter and vocalist, whose career spanned several decades and made enormous contributions to the development of jazz.
Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901, into a poor family in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a child, he began playing the cornet and later switched to the trumpet. In the 1920s, Armstrong moved to Chicago, where his talent was quickly noticed. He played in famous orchestras such as King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band, and later created his own groups, Hot Five and Hot Seven, with whom he recorded his famous compositions.
Armstrong became known for his unique trumpet style, virtuoso improvisations and husky but warm voice. His performances of such hits as “What a Wonderful World”, “Hello, Dolly!” and “La Vie en Rose” made him a world celebrity.
Louis Armstrong had a significant influence on the development of jazz, paving the way for future generations of musicians. He left an indelible mark on the history of music and is one of the symbols of American culture of the 20th century.
