Boris Pasternak

An outstanding Russian poet, prose writer and translator. Born into the family of artist Leonid Pasternak and pianist Rosalia Kaufman. In the creative atmosphere of a family that was friends with such great artists as Leo Tolstoy and Sergei Rachmaninov, Boris was immersed in the world of literature and art from childhood.
Pasternak received a varied education, first studying music at the Moscow Conservatory, and then philosophy at Moscow University and the University of Marburg in Germany. However, he decided to devote himself to literature.
His first collections of poetry, such as Twin in the Clouds (1914) and My Sister is Life (1922), brought him recognition for his innovative style and deep lyrical themes. In the 1930s, Pasternak was also actively involved in translations, including the works of Shakespeare, Goethe and other classics of world literature.
Pasternak’s main prose work was the novel Doctor Zhivago, written in 1945-1955 and published abroad in 1957. The novel describes the complex fates of people against the backdrop of revolutionary events and the civil war in Russia. For this work, Pasternak was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1958, but due to pressure from the Soviet authorities he was forced to refuse the prize.
Pasternak died on May 30, 1960 in Peredelkino, near Moscow. His work had a huge influence on Russian and world literature, remaining a significant part of the cultural heritage of the 20th century. Link to biography.

KARMIC INDICATORS

Karmic indicators help a person become aware of deep-rooted problems that go back to past lives, and begin working on themselves in order to overcome them and improve both this life and, potentially, the next one. Karmic problems should not be understood as punishment for misdeeds and sins, as karma is usually interpreted in the everyday sense. Karma is not retribution, but rather inertia, when a person attracts similar situations from one life to another. From a karmic point of view, every element of the natal chart can be interpreted without exception. However, the most important indicators of karma in the horoscope are retrograde planets, if any, and the Lunar Nodes.

Retrograde Planets

Retrograde planets are always connected with turning back to the past. The more retrograde planets a person has in the horoscope, the stronger their connection with the past. A retrograde planet also points to an unresolved task from a past life, unfinished business, or unrealized abilities. It forces the person to take up again what could not be completed in the past. The symbol used in the table is R.

Retrograde Mercury — Individuality

When Mercury is retrograde in the horoscope, the individual’s conscious mind is able to intercept ideas from the universal consciousness of earlier times. Usually, they are not aware of this, but they are aware that they cannot easily make others understand everything they know. This is partly connected with the inversion of the Mercury symbol, in which the significance of Matter exceeds the significance of Spirit and Soul. This makes the individual concerned with the form of their ideas. And this acts as a barrier to the essence of their knowledge.

In addition, the wavelength of their mind differs slightly from what is accepted in society. Thought processes tend to repeat themselves like an endless recording, and as a result, most of the things they create are, in one form or another, copies of what they have already done. When they speak, it is difficult for them to project the exact telepathic pictures that convey the meanings of their thoughts. Thus, they often feel misunderstood and wonder why others do not always see things the same way they do.

They see themselves as more separate from society than a person with Mercury in direct motion may be. As a result, they desperately try to develop contacts with other people, overemphasizing their ideas until they begin to irritate those around them. Feeling constrained in company, they make great efforts to win the favor of others. Nevertheless, at the slightest hint of rejection, they may give up too easily. Ultimately, they learn that in order to have self-confidence, they must become more detached and impartial than people with Mercury in direct motion. This is often interpreted by others as “coldness,” but it is simply the vibration of retrograde Mercury, which is so obviously disharmonious with the vibrations of direct motion. Behind the apparent wall, this individual is far more sensitive than most people can imagine.

Once the communication barrier has been crossed, tremendous understanding and intuition emanate from retrograde Mercury. The retrograde individual does not fit into the ideas and opinions of the people around them. Instead, they can find peace in gratitude for their unique way of seeing things.

It is interesting to note that many people with musical talent have retrograde Mercury. Perhaps awareness of difficulties with spoken language led them to another form of communication, one that has much greater freedom and many levels of subtle mental and emotional expression.

Retrograde Mercury — Karma

A person with retrograde Mercury must experience unresolved relationship karma. They react to others as if those people symbolize figures from their past. Thus, it is difficult for them to keep the focus of their consciousness on the “here and now.” Usually, this manifests as difficulties with family and relatives. But the issue of relationships extends beyond communication with other people and includes the perception of the universe as a whole. There is often a problem characteristic of retrograde Mercury in terms of seeing what may be called an inverted reality. The individual has difficulty understanding the basic relationship between cause and effect. They explore the essence of life itself, yet often cannot see the simple connections between things, circumstances, and people. Lost in thoughts that lie beyond their understanding, they must learn to be content with the simple things on which life is based. They are so absorbed in uncovering what is beyond their understanding that they almost always miss the obvious.

From a karmic point of view, this individual must learn to focus attention on the reality of the present rather than lose themselves in all the apparent layers they perceive. When they are able to do this, they will be able to establish a solid point of reference in the “here and now,” through which all the discoveries they make can be expressed to the outer world.

Retrograde Mercury in Aquarius

This is one of the best positions for retrograde Mercury. The Uranian air quality of Aquarius gives Mercury enough space to comfortably experience the three-phase retrograde process through different dimensions of time and space. In Phase I, the individual feels happy leaping into the future, but does not want to spread into other people’s space. In Phase III, they are happy because they do not violate other people’s space, and they are glad to explore the past again in order to unearth extraordinary discoveries that will be useful at another future moment in time. In the cross-vibration of Phase II, the individual experiences a brief rest from research, but may be happy helping others. In all three phases, there is something for retrograde Mercury in Aquarius, which makes the individual so remarkably unique and original.

Although it may seem that they do not always have common sense, and at times show less stability than others would like to see in them, they have an enormous range of ideas that they draw from the most unusual places. Society usually fails to notice these ideas. They may take a concept as old as the world, change it slightly, and it may not be accepted for a millennium after they have proposed it. Their mental energies tend to flutter rather than hold a definite focus for a long period of time, and they may discuss a wide variety of topics in a single conversation. Although it may not seem that they are proving any point, they nevertheless prove that point in the strangest way. Others will understand them better days, weeks, or months after communicating with them than at the moment of conversation. They often bring with them from a past life into the present time — into a time when the world may be more ready to accept their ideas — the necessary details for remarkable inventions.

Retrograde Mercury in the Sixth House

Here, Mercury falls in the House it rules. The mutable qualities of the Sixth House combine with Mercury’s natural flexibility to give the individual a sharp analytical approach to organizing their life.

Although they feel a certain degree of comfort in all three retrograde phases, they still have difficulty getting along with other people, especially in work situations. During Phase I, they often try to impress their ideas upon others, whereas in Phase III, they go back in time in order to critically analyze how well those ideas were carried out. Other people’s reactions to them make them very nervous. Thinking that people expect something from them, they feel obligated to them. In order to organize their work habits, they must understand the final result and return to the initial steps that will lead them where they intend to go.

They may be overly critical of themselves and spend a great deal of time wondering whether to continue evaluating and judging their inner existence or to focus their mental energy outward in an attempt to overcome their shortcomings through service to others. However, there are periods when others reject their service. Thus, they experience disappointment in their relationships with people.

They are much better at organizing things than people. One of their greatest difficulties is that they “harness” their life to self-imposed limitations. Sometimes they accept responsibility they think they should not have accepted; at other times, they rush away from what they think they should do. They bring into their life the karma of discrimination, through which they constantly try to make all things and people fit into their preconceived order of the universe.

They are an excellent worker, especially in areas that involve following a procedure created in the past. They must become more tolerant of the human factor so that their high ideals of order and perfection do not lead them into negativity toward the people they work with and the society in which they live. One day, they must see that they judge themselves according to their ideals, and others according to their actions.

Retrograde Saturn - Individuality

A native with retrograde Saturn takes very seriously the completion of everything they left unfinished in the past. They tend to go back in order to fill any gaps in what they once too hastily considered complete. Essentially, they are thoughtful and balanced. Karmically, this native is compelled to live in the idealized world they would like to see around them.
