Marie Curie was an outstanding scientist known for her pioneering research in the field of radioactivity. She was born on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland, as Maria Skłodowska. In 1895, Marie married physicist Pierre Curie, and together they formed a powerful scientific union. In 1898, they discovered the elements polonium and radium while studying the radioactive properties of uranium. Marie Curie’s extensive research into radioactivity earned her the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903, which she shared with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel.
